GNE Page Updated

After responding to a bug report in the forums, I updated the link on the GNE subversion, which was obsolete since SourceForge changed their SVN URL scheme. Users working with GCC 4.3.0 should now be able to compile GNE when working with version 0.75.

Master's Project

I have created a site for the work on my master's project, RealDB. More information is coming soon on its site.

CSS Handheld Profile Support

Sorry for the news spam, but one last item (seriously)... I've also added handheld support to the CSS profile. I used ems in the CSS sizing before for the site and it always looked well, but now I have some handheld-specific tweaks. I've tested this functionality against IE in Windows Mobile 2005 only so far. I plan on doing a little more tweaking in the next few days but please make comments if you have any.

CSS Printing Support Enabled

I added some print rules to the style sheet, so that the site should print out better on a printer, if that's your thing. Please feel free to contact me if you have any suggestions.

Site Code Changes

I switched the site from a table-based layout to a div-based layout. In order to make my time with CSS easier I had to change the style a little, but I also took some other liberties. I might change the style a bit more soon -- I'm not sure I like a few of the colors.

Forum Software Switch

I just migrated from PHPBB to Simple Machines Forum because of all of the hacking and spam bot accounts I was getting on the PHPBB boards. I'm not sure if SMF is any more secure from these things, but we will see... If you have any issues with your moved account or using the new boards please let me know.

Also, the new URL for the forums is http://forums.gillius.org/, so please update your bookmarks. I will try to keep that URL as permanent as possible, however URLs underneath that may change if the software changes.

GNE Updates

I've added the CVS changelog to the current progress section and also added an article about a potential design issue with GNE about how truly effective a multithreaded network engine can be in a game? It's an open problem and I encourage discussion about it in the fourms, especially if you have designed something around this.

DVD Benchmark and Site Tweaks

I was playing around a bit with the site design (the navigation bar on the left), and just for fun I put up some benchmarks from my two DVD drives. You can find the benchmarks in the articles section.

RSS Feed

For no reason at all but because I wanted to try to learn it, I've added an RSS feed to my site. Firefox should be able to pick it up automatically. For other readers, the RSS url is: http://www.gillius.org/rss/news.xml

Site Tweaking

I am further tweaking the look of my site. If you see any bad-looking stuff or messed up stuff, please contact me and let me know. Also, I'm no artist, so if anyone talented wants to make a Gillius's Programming site logo, please contact me as well.

New Look and Updated Tutorial

I've completely redone the look of the site. Also, I've majorly updated the first of my tutorials, the C tutorial -- its last update was in 1999! Check it out in the tutorials section. I know there are issues with the current old news section, and there are probably some issues on some very old content that didn't use CSS (probably in my tutorials from 7 years ago). If you find anything, let me know.

New Forums

The new Gillius.org forums
are now up. No more crappy "swirve.com" super basic forums
with no security (of people's identies) or fixed width fonts for
posting code. This new forum is hosted by gillius.org and is powered
by phpBB. It will probably be low traffic like the old forum,
but I will be around to answer posts at the same level I answer
              e-mails.

Gillius's Programming's New Home

It's time for Gillius's Programming to make
              a move to a new site -- gillius.org!
This is its third move, but thanks to RIT
              for hosting my original
site for over 5 years now.

Particle Memory Allocation Article Updated

I added two new algorithms, and pages and pages
of more benchmarks from other systems. Check
it out. The source code also has been improved and refactored.

Particle Memory Allocation Article

I examined five different algorithms for memory
managing a particle system, and wrote an article about it. You can
              view that article here.

Mega Monkey Mayhem Completed

The game previously called Super IsoBomb 3D
has been renamed to Mega Monkey Mayhem. The entire theme has been
              redesigned, so it is not really a sequel to Super IsoBomb any longer;
now it is a complete game on its own. This game was submitted to
the IGF 2004 contest. You can view information about the game and
screen shots on the Mega Monkey Mayhem homepage.

Various Site Updates

I noticed that Peter's Xundar page is gone so
I decided to flesh mine out a lot more. I've done some maintenance
in the courses area, and put up some notes about issues I've seen
with people trying to play Super IsoBomb.

Super IsoBomb 3D Announced

A continuation to the Super IsoBomb game has
been announced. This project will feature a new 3D engine, as a
project for our Computer Graphics 2 class in college. Visit the
Super IsoBomb 3D page for more information.

GNE Beginner's Guide

I've updated the last major part of the GNE
documentation and website stuff. There may be some very minor parts
around I've missed but I haven't seen any yet (except for the FAQ
but most of that is still relevant). This latest update includes
a revision of the starting page of the current GNE documentation
to reflect the new GNE 0.70 major API changes, and its content has
also increased somewhat. Please send in your feedback on the newest
GNE or tell me about anything I've missed.

Also a reader sent in some more information about getting the SB
Live! to work in a "DOS box". I added it verbatim so you can take
it at face value. This was added in the "getting the sound to work" page.
